HW - Thursday, 10/27

Parents:
  • Wednesday Folders went out today.
  • As a class, we are participating with some other Ruskin classes in the Trick or Treat for UNICEF. This is optional but students have learned about what UNICEF does around the world. We will count the collected money in class on Thursday, 11/3. We will then total the collections, and I will take them to the nearest Coinstar, which is processing the donations without a fee. The receipt is then mailed to UNICEF. Afterwards, I will share on the Blog how much we have donated and what that roughly helps purchase for UNICEF's causes. To learn more, please visit www.unicefusa.org/trick-or-treat.
  • Most of the class built their Lego name tags today. However, we encountered some problems: students didn't count correctly based on their design; students didn't count their pieces correctly causing some shortages; and we have some extra pieces (as a result of miscounts). Once all students have finished putting their name tags together, I start another order for the missing elements.
  • Yearbook sales have started! Best time to buy them is now because they're only $20 AND you get to personalize your back cover. Prices go up scarily to $30 after 10/31.
  • Monday, 10/31 (All Hallows' Eve):
    • Halloween Parade will begin at 8:40 a.m. on the black top/basketball courts. There will only be one parade, and we are requesting that parents please WAIT AT THE LUNCH TABLES while the classes are moving to their spots. Violent costumes are not allowed. Students who cannot participate will be provided an alternative activity monitored by a staff member.
    • We will have a brief treat exchange in the afternoon. It's not a party but just an exchange of goodies before we go home. Treats must be purchased at a store and cannot be homemade. You may also provide alternatives like pencils, little toys/trinkets, etc. If you would like to bring treats to share, please remember we have 29 students. Thank you!
  • We have started two Reading Log programs for October: Book It!, sponsored by Pizza Hut, and Reading is Cool, sponsored by the San Jose Sharks. Students who complete the monthly reading log get a coupon for a free personal pizza and entered for possible prizes from the Sharks.
  • Congratulations to Andrea, who had the winning design for our t-shirt! (We are the "Popularly Peaceful Pandas")
    • UPDATE: The printing is beginning today!
    • Here is the first mock-up of the t-shirt (which was received last week). This will be the FINAL revision:
