How are these different from our present state standards?
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
- more COMPLEX TEXT and their academic language
- using EVIDENCE FROM TEXT in reading, writing, and speaking activities
- BUILDING KNOWLEDGE through content-rich non-fiction.
...In other words, LOTS OF NON-FICTION.
MATH
- placing a greater FOCUS on fewer standards
- linking topics and thinking across the grade levels creating COHERENCE
- developing RIGOROUS curricula around understanding, developing fluency and skills, and applying math concepts.
