HW - Thursday, 11/3

Parents:
  • UPDATE: Conference schedule notices will go out twice TODAY: via a small note home and via an email reminder on Friday. Conference week is November 14-18 and 28. They are 1:00 dismissal days. Please note that I will be blocking off some time mostly for Lego Robotics and Math Olympiad. EDIT: Here is the link to the Conference Tab (on the HW Blog).
  • I will have a substitute on Monday due to report card preparation.
  • November 11 is Veterans' Day, an federal and state holiday so there will be NO SCHOOL.
  • Due to errors in the computer program, I will be reviewing the math tests students have been taking online. Unfortunately, the online program was marking answers like 4539 incorrect because there wasn't a comma (4,539). Also, if the order of some numbers were wrong, for example when a student was executing the expanded algorithm for multiplication, then the computer gave zero to fractional credit despite the correctness of the partial products. It will be a time-consuming task and the Topic 6 test may be the last online math test we are going to take this year for quite some time.
  • THANK YOU to those students who participated in the Trick or Treat UNICEF collection. We set a modest goal of $100, but we reaised $220! AMAZING! I will be processing the donation today and will share with you the collection receipt.
  • We have started two Reading Log programs for October: Book It!, sponsored by Pizza Hut, and Reading is Cool, sponsored by the San Jose Sharks. Students who complete the monthly reading log get a coupon for a free personal pizza and entered for possible prizes from the Sharks.
  • Congratulations to Andrea, who had the winning design for our t-shirt! (We are the "Popularly Peaceful Pandas")
    • UPDATE: The printing started on Friday!
