Earthquake in Taiwan

First, thoughts and prayers go to those affected by the earthquake in Taiwan. We have some families at Ruskin who have relatives there, so I hope they're unharmed.

Second, as a class, we've talked about earthquake materials and construction regulations in science so it's appropriate to bring this up. A person took pictures of a building that crumbled. Apparently, it looks like tin cans (and it was mentioned elsewhere, styrofoam) were used as "filler" building material.

This is why we have regulations regarding the way buildings in California are built (to withstand earthquakes).
