Some interesting facts:

  • The first exported California pears are traced to the Mission’s orchards.
  • The Mission cemetery are the burial grounds of many pioneers of the area.
  • The highest mountain closest to the mission is Mission Peak.
  • A crowd of 20,000 jammed into the little community of Mission San Jose for the Mission's 150th anniversary celebration in 1947.
  • The Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West worked to restore parts of the Mission in 1915 and 1950 and turned into a museum. It is still open daily.
