Meet Some Famous Authors!

Hicklebee's, an independent bookseller specializing in children's literature, is hosting some very famous authors in the coming month at their store in San Jose (Willow Glen neighborhood).

I STRONGLY encourage your child to attend at least one of them. It can be a very powerful (and cool!) experience to meet a famous author...especially one whose books they have read!

Mark your calendars and have fun!

Congratulations, New Parents! You've Found the Class Website!

Feel free to take a look around.

I'm updating it now and in the coming days.

Regarding HW:
1)  SUBSCRIBE to the blog by entering your email in the box on the right ------>
This ensures that you will receive updates in your Inbox if you're on the road or at work, and especially if you cannot access the website for some reason.
2)  ALL HW will be archived. This is the major reason why I chose a Blog format: the storage of past HW postings in addition to the unnecessary updating and deleting of a webpage's content was convenient and easy for me, my students and their parents.

Have fun!

School's Around the Corner!

I hope you have been enjoying (enjoyed) your vacations and are getting ready for school.

A few reminders:

1) Class lists are posted on Friday, August 22 in the afternoon. As of now, they will be in their usual place: outside the blue double doors leading toward the office from the big parking lot.

2) First day of school is Monday, August 25.

3) Here is the link to the district/school calendar for the 2014-15 school year: http://www.berryessa.k12.ca.us/documents/2014-2015%20School%20Year%20Calendar.pdf
Bookmark it.
Print it out.
Take a pic of it and store it in your cellphone's photo roll.

4) The office IS OPEN. So stop by, call, or email them if you have any questions.

See you soon!

What some people will do for an education.

I know this may be an old article but the fact that she (and her brother) did this every time to go to school is amazing.

Report Cards Have Been Sent Out via PDF

Parents, you should have received the PDF copy of your child's report card via email.
If you have not, please contact me.

Later this week (or early next week), you should receive an envelope containing a hard copy of the report card as well as any other work your child may have left behind in the classroom or was not distributed.

We will be revising the report card for next school year so it matches the Common Core expectations at each grade level. It will probably look vastly different as assessed standards have changed.

I will be posting on this Blog throughout the summer with Ruskin updates, cool websites or tidbits, funny stuff, and whatever educational captures my fancy and is worth sharing.

Enjoy your summer, and THANK YOU for a great school year!

Mr. Amutan
:)

Thank you for the goodies!

First, thank you parents for donating the food for today. They enjoyed it from the snacks to the food to the desserts.

Second, thank you for the cards and gifts. I was touched to read the comments, and I am totally appreciative of your generosity! Thank you so much!

The remaining days are sure to fly by now!
